TIME: Iowa youth rally around “the gospel of Paul”

“Hell yeah for Ron Paul!”said one Ron Paul supporter, flashing the rock-and-roll horns. Paul recently spoke at Council Bluffs saying, ““What you want to do with your life, what your religious beliefs are, what your intellectual pursuits are, what your private habits are, that’s part of freedom,” and it’s a message that resonates with the youth.

“I never thought I would see the day when it would be cool to be a libertarian on a college campus, but it is,” says Blake Whitten, statistics professor at the University of Iowa. Their campus newspaper endorsed Ron Paul this month. “We have all these kids running around with T-shirts that say ‘End the Fed.'”

Iowa youth are not shy to come out in swarms for their Iowa Caucus. In 2008, 68% of younger Iowa voters cast a ballot in 2008, the same pool that analysts believe Paul will depend on to win Tuesday, appealing to both younger voters and independents.
