New Hampshire Debate: Romney defers to “our constitutionalist”

with one comment

In a question about whether the Griswold case, a US Supreme Court Decision that interpreted the US  Constitution to imply the right to privacy, which was later used as the bases for Roe v. Wade, Mitt Romney was unable to determine if states would have the right to ban contraceptives, and deferred the question to Ron Paul, calling him “our Constitutionalist” among them.

The question sparked an unusual opportunity for sophistication in the debate. It also exposed the front runners for not having much to say about it. “Ugg…Roe. v. Wade bad,” was the extent of the conversation for most of them. Paul, on the other hand, cited the Fourth Amendment as justification for the Griswold ruling. Mitt sidestepped the question with jokes about not wanting to outlaw contraception.
