Rick Perry bows out of the race – His former supporters undecided

leave a comment »

Texas governor Rick Perry withdrew from the primary race, leaving his former supporters to back someone else.

“If somebody else likes a Texan maybe [they’ll] come to me,” said Ron Paul, but did not seem very optimistic.

According to one survey, only 10 percent of Perry voters have said they will turn to Paul, with about a quarter undecided. Though former Perry fans might be more keen on Santorum or Gingrich, neither of these candidates have the funding Paul has been able to count on. Especially for someone like Santorum, funding can be expected to trump poll numbers as an indication for longevity.

New Hampshire Debate: Romney defers to “our constitutionalist”

with one comment

In a question about whether the Griswold case, a US Supreme Court Decision that interpreted the US  Constitution to imply the right to privacy, which was later used as the bases for Roe v. Wade, Mitt Romney was unable to determine if states would have the right to ban contraceptives, and deferred the question to Ron Paul, calling him “our Constitutionalist” among them.

The question sparked an unusual opportunity for sophistication in the debate. It also exposed the front runners for not having much to say about it. “Ugg…Roe. v. Wade bad,” was the extent of the conversation for most of them. Paul, on the other hand, cited the Fourth Amendment as justification for the Griswold ruling. Mitt sidestepped the question with jokes about not wanting to outlaw contraception.

Santorum about his Ron-Paul-supporting Nephew: “It’s a phase”

leave a comment »

Rick Santorum was asked last Wednesday about his nephew’s endorsement of Ron Paul. “It’s a phase,” said Santorum, “I understand it. And so we all go through those things. God bless Johnny, it’s wonderful.”

Yes, God bless Johnny — and God help Santorum when news of his bribe-ridden voting record hits the mainstream. It is not likely that the people will dismiss his palm-greased politics as just a”phase,” too.

Infamous CNN video cut-off

with 2 comments

A US soldier, supporting Ron Paul interviewed with CNN on Caucus night in Iowa. While defending Paul’s foreign policies, the connection cut out. The last words could be heard when the soldier disagreed with the opinion that Ron Paul’s foreign policy was dangerous, saying, “Well, I think it would be even more dangerous to start nit-picking wars with other countries. Someone like Iran [distortion] Israel is perfectly capable [connection lost].”
